The 76th Golden Globes nominations have been announced this week, who were the biggest surprises and snubs?
This years nominations saw a mixed bag of movies and TV shows being recognised, Vice leads the pack with 6 nominations, The Favourite and Green Book both have 5 and BlacKkKlansman and A Star is Born have 4.
Many "popular" films were nominated alongside the usual critically accalimed ones including, Black Panther, Crazy Rich Asians and Mary Poppins Returns. A few of the surpising nomantions were, Sacha Baron Cohen for Who Is America? as Best Actor in a Comedy, BlacKkKlansman was expected to receive nominations this awards season but it has completly steamrolled with its 4 nominations in 4 of the bigger categories. Bohemian Rhapsody was also a surprise due to its negative critical reception it wasnt expected to pick up Best Motion Picture, Drama.
Amongst the snubbed films and TV shows were some of the most popular (with audiences and critics) from the past year. Maniac, Atlanta, This Is Us, black-ish and The Haunting of Hill House were all left out off the nomination lists, GLOW and Westworld both received only one nomination each for Alison Brie and Thandie Newtons performances. First Man and First Reformed were also both expected to pick up nominations in the Best Actor, Drama and Best Motion Picture, Drama categories but neither saw these nominations, although Claire Foy was nominated for her role in First Man.
Constance Wu has also become the first Asian woman to be nominated in her category for 44 years, the last woman nominated in the category was, Yvonne Ellima who was nominated in 1974 for her role in Jesus Christ Superstar.
