The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have finally released their nominations from the Oscars this year! Check out the most nominated films, the surprises and snubs!

The films that pulled in the most nominations at the awards this year are, The Favourite and Roma, both pulling in 10 nominations each, following behind them are, A Star is Born and Vice with 8, Black Panther with 7, BlacKkKlansman with 6, Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book with 5 each and finally, First Man and Mary Poppins Returns with 4.

Probably one of the most notable nominations is, Black Panther nominated for Best Picture, the film is the first superhero movie ever to be nominated in the category, some people have had issues with the film being nominated, being a superhero film people question if its storytelling and the film overall is as good as the other films nominated in the category. The films place in the category is rightly deserved though, the movie was a smash hit at the box office and broke massive barriers in the representation of black people in films.

Some of the other big surprises in the list include, Bradley Coopers' absence in the Best Director category for A Star Is Born after being nominated for the category in all of the other significant awards. Emily Blunt and the highly praised film, Crazy Rich Asians also saw no nominations. Yalitza Aparicio was also a surprise nomination for her role in the foreign language film, Roma, although it is a well deserved nomination. In more good news Spike Lee, after decades of directing, has been nomainted for the first time in the Best Director category.

It is highly anticipated that Olivia Colman may win the Best Actress award, although Glenn Close and Lady Gaga are also both favourites in the category, Close and Colman also both won at the Golden Globes. Bohemian Rhapsody although not welcomed with the best critical reception has already been highly nominated and won Best Actor and Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes too. Many of the films this year will be very deserving winners throughout the cateogories at this years show, only time will tell who become the favourties, with the SAG Awards and BAFTAS both yet to hand out their awards.
